Two spring-fed ponds cascade down the valley, connected by the stream that crosses the walled park. Originally constructed in the medieval period for fish farming, the ponds have evolved over centuries into rich, biodiverse habitats fringed with willows and native plants.
The upper pond, shaded by ancient willows, is where morning mist lingers longest. The lower pond, more open and sun-drenched, is overlooked by a wooden observation deck — perfect for yoga sessions, quiet reading, or simply watching the water. Herons fish from the banks at dawn. Kingfishers flash blue along the stream. In autumn, the surrounding trees paint the water with reflected gold and copper. Catch-and-release fishing is available from the pond banks, and guided nature walks reveal the ecological story of these centuries-old waterways.
